Krispy Kreme doughnut shop caught fire and is damaged. The shop in Atlanta belongs to a former national football league star Shaquille O’Neal. 

The Krispy Kreme doughnuts is situated along Ponce de Leon Avenue in midtown Atlanta. The shop is reported to have caught fire shortly before 1 a.m on Wednesday.

Two workers who were inside the store at that time called 911. They made a call at about 12:45 a.m. after a smoky smell. Sgt. Cortez Stafford, spokesperson for the Atlanta fire rescue department, told that the workers got out of the shop on time and are not injured.

He reported that the rear of the building was in heavy flames when the fire rescue team reached the spot. 

The fire was so great that it took about 35 firefighters to extinguish the fire in an operation that lasts overnight. To be more vigilant about any hot spots still present at the site, some firefighters stayed back at the site. Investigators are still working to find out the exact reasons behind the fire in the building.

According to Stafford, the front of the building is mostly saved. But the inside and the rear of the building is at severe loss. Charred ash is only what is left behind after the fire.

Nearby buildings and shops were not affected by the huge fire.

At that time no customers were present in the shop. The dining area was also closed. 

The Krispy Kreme owner O’Neal shared a video of the fire accident at his shop on his Instagram account. He said that he is glad to know that no one got injured during the fire. He also said that they will be back soon, with a greater strength.

O’Neal had bought the place in 2016. Since then, he is the spokesman for the Krispy Kreme doughnut franchise.

The store is one of the most famous buildings at the Ponce de Leon Avenue in midtown Atlanta. The shop’s sign that used to glow in red is the beloved landmark of the area. 

The shop also has some historical events attached to it. It is reported that in 1968 the Krispy Kreme doughnuts have supplied around 1,500 doughnuts to Churches in and around the area. The doughnuts were fed to around thousands of mourners who had gathered to participate in the funeralprocession in honor of late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Everyone around the area and even the workers of the shop now want the store to be rebuilt saying that the historic shop is a renowned landmark in the area. People are expressing their joy after learning that O’Neal, the owner of the shop, intend to rebuilt the building.

Krispy Kreme’s owner and the NFL superstar, O’Neal also ensured that the workers of the shop at Ponce location will be paid full wages till they manage to find a new job at some other location.

Another person who identified himself to be the co-owner of the shop said that they are relieved to know that know one was hurt during the fire. They thanked the local authorities for acting promptly at the accident site. He also said that since the investigation is going on to assert the damage and the cause of the fire, they are unsure when they will be able to reopen the store. But he assured that they are working on the plan to reopen the shop as soon as possible. 

He also announced that, as the owners of the shop, O’Neal and he himself, has decided to provide full salaries to the team members of Krispy Kreme at Ponce location. Meanwhile they will work on identifying other Krispy Kreme locations to offer jobs to the Ponce location employees. 

The historic landmark is loved by all. And the people in area want it back soon.
