Innovation Of Remote Monitoring System Helps Cancer Patients From Hospitalization

A new case finding at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center by researchers had found that cancer patients who are treated from COVID-19 had a home care treatment rather than hospital treatment because those treatments are significantly less. Cancer patients who are suffering from illness can visit for hospitalization.

According to a survey, the cancer people who are with COVID-19 didn’t participate in the program. The results of the survey were released on June 4th that is Friday at an annual meeting at the American society of clinical oncology. Those results were presented and later posted in the journal of clinical oncology.

For this case study, researchers had evaluated 224 patients at Mayo Clinic for people who are suffering from cancer COVID-19 had standardized prior of screening to receive treatment for cancer or if cancer patients have symptoms can be treated with standard measures.

Tufia Haddad is an M.D. at Mayo Clinical Center of medical oncology and she was a senior author at her case study. Including her with other researchers they followed the patients from march 18th July to 31st July in the year 2020 to research the cancer patients on their treatment.

In this COVID-19 pandemic, Mayo Clinic had developed many terms to stay connected with their patients and implemented remote monitoring for the people who are seriously ill and can’t consult the doctors because of lockdown everywhere. This implementation is to support the Mayo clinic people who are facing difficulties with health issues.

The programming feature developed by the researchers is to improve the technology features at home for monitoring the oxygen levels and vital signals of cancer patients if they are attacked with COVID-19. They also updated the hospital staff with a virtual health care team including nurses and physicians to direct the patients for their medication.

Dr. Haddad said that 8,000 patients are treated remotely in a successful way of treatment in both urban and rural areas for nearly 41 states by the end of November in the year 2020. A remote patient health care monitoring system is the simple way to decrease the delivery costs of healthcare; mainly in remote areas, it is a good approach for the people who are suffering from illness to monitor themselves on daily basis regularly.

Researchers found the reviews on the monitoring system about who needs urgent hospitalization or medication can shift for the remote monitoring system which is equal treatment to the hospital. Patients on their COVID-19 diagnosis can also have a remote monitoring system to treat themselves significantly with less requirement of hospitalization; Haddad said that this would be a great program for the cancer patients and COVID patients as well.

During balancing of patients who are suffering from cancer including COVID irrespective of gender and age are accepted for the remote treatment which reduces the 78 percent of hospitalization. There is a risk of 2.8 percent of patients on remote monitoring systems among 13 percent of patients with no program or medication said Dr. Haddad in an institute interview.

Dr. Haddad says that some people with cancer can experience other hospitalization and ICU conditions which can make a risk for their life and leads to death.

There is a great possibility of results on early detection of COVID symptoms for cancer patients and there are other interventions and medications for those people with vital signs but, if patients who ignore the symptoms cannot be dragged up to the final medication level which may put them into risk said, Dr. Haddad. She also says that “further research on confirmations can be more helpful for the new treatments and medications for the patients”.
