United Nations is one of the wealthiest nations in the world, but it’s far from healthiest. Americans live shorter lives and experience more injuries and illness when compared with other high-income countries.

According to Business Insider, the United States of America tops 32.7 million covid cases in the world. Even though the affected number of cases is high, the recovery rate of the same is also increasing. To stabilize the current situation, many scientists and laboratories have been working on the vaccine. One of them is Johnson & Johnson, who successfully discovered the vaccine for coronavirus. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been administered to over 7.5 million people in the United States of America. But the use of the vaccine has been halted as there were six cases of rare and several types of severe blood clots were reviewed. A federal vaccine advisory committee is recovering Friday to discuss the next steps to Johnson & Johnson’s Corona vaccine’s halt.

The Independent Expert Panel, The advisory committee on Immunization Practices last met on April 14, reviewed the decision made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration to recommend the temporary halt in giving the vaccine before giving it to the rest of the population, more reports have to be gathered from the already vaccinated population about the blood clots. The panel also mentioned that more data would be required about the risks, causes, and rare brain blood clots before lifting the temporary halt of the vaccine.

The federal health authorities are leaning toward recommending the usage of the vaccine from this weekend. Still, this time the usage of the vaccine would come with a warning to avoid the rare brain blood clots, but the warning does not include any restrictions on the age. The advisory recommendations have to be approved by the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). If the United States lifts the pause on the vaccine and adds up a warning, it would be similar to Europe’s drug regulator. Johnson & Johnson should carry a warning and no restriction on use.

After the pause of the vaccine, there were few more cases reported, but the authorities have declined to elaborate. The rarity of the cases has persuaded the federal officials that the complications can be addressed by adding a warning. And people who have received vaccination from Johnson & Johnson and suffering from severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks of receiving the vaccine should contact their medical provider. And physicians are advised not to use heparin and common drug to treat the blood clots as it will help them to monitor the condition and know the cause of the blood clots.

Some of the public health experts were not satisfied with the committee’s decision as the health experts recommend that before lifting the pause of vaccine, it has to be based on the proper context. The conditions of lifting the halt have to be specified. If the CDC votes Friday in lifting the pause of vaccine, then FDA could recommend the resume of shots within hours or days. But if the CDC has a different view on the situation and recommends any restriction, it is not clear on what happens next.

The six cases which were identified by the officials were women that occurred between the age group of 18 – 48 years and all the women were white. Only one woman was taking hormonal contraceptives that cause the blood clots, which shows that that was not the cause for the blood clot. All these women suffered from severe headaches six to 13 days after vaccination. Some of the women had blood clots in other parts of the body and accompanied by lower levels of platelets.

After carefully examining all the causes, risks, and symptoms, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention will approve the recommendation of the committee to list the pause on the usage of the vaccine.
