A federal advisory committee made an announcement this Wednesday with regards to the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children aged between 12 to 15.

Wherein vaccine recommendations have set the ball rolling for carrying out routine vaccinations along with the Covid-19 vaccine.
The immune response, efficacy, and safety of the vaccine were major points of discussion. The panel members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention constituted a meeting earmarking this age group. A close call came right after the signing off on Monday by the Food and Drug Administration for the shots.
Last December saw the very Immunization Practice’s Advisory Committee signing off the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines. Ones that were categorized for adults as well as teens in the age group of 16 to 17. The endorsement for lowering the age bracket to 12 years was decided by fourteen of the panel members this Wednesday.
The signing off of the recommendation was done this Wednesday evening by Rochelle Walensky, the director of CDC. An action that paves the way open for the opening up of vaccination constituting a whopping 17 million adolescents.
This official move by CDC is aimed at strengthening the efforts by the nation in safeguarding as many people as they can from Covid-19.
The Covid-19 vaccine and other vaccines had a two-week separation window to determine the plausible side effects as per earlier cautionary efforts. The move for such a recommendation was initiated for proper evaluation and collection of ample amounts of safety data.
The Covid-19 vaccination was recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics for both adolescents and children in a statement. Even 12 years of age and older citing there is no medical reasoning for not doing so.
The stress was also laid on administering both the Covid-19 vaccine along with the other vaccines by the Academy. Wherein significance of routine vaccinations and rapid assimilation of the vaccines for Covid-19 was mentioned by the academy’s representative, Dr. Yvonne Maldonado. One of the reputed pediatrics professors at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
The Immunization Action Coalition’s chief strategy officer, L.J. Tan, mentioned how beneficial it will be for the children if all of the shots are coupled at once. This includes all the vaccinations that have fallen behind on schedule since the beginning of the pandemic.
A necessitated step cited by L.J. Tan for getting back to the coverage levels that was ensured during pre-Covid days. Thus, stepping up the procedures for catching up on the routine adolescent vaccines.
One thousand adolescents were considered for the trial tests run by the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Wherein an equal footing was considered for a placebo.

The co-lead of the ACIP Covid-19 Vaccines Work Group, Dr. Sara Oliver, quipped how one of the top ten causes for death in adolescents aged between 12 to 17 is now Covid-19. 1.3 percent of all deaths registered in adolescents have been attributed to Covid-19 for the period between January 1, 2020, to April 30. The total number of deaths counted stands at 127.
To date, the total number of reported cases has been over 1.5 million, while the hospitalizations have been a massive 13000 within the very age bracket. Thus, posing the threat that they are likely to have in the transmission of Covid-19 across households and communities.
