Though sleeping is a natural process, some people suffer from different types of sleeping disorders. Sleeping disorders are nothing but difficulty in sleeping and the sleeping pattern. Some of these disorders are so serious that affect the physical, mental, psychological, and social functions of the person.

Sleep disruptions can be caused even by grinding teeth known as Bruxism and night terrors. If there is difficulty falling asleep without any cause, it is commonly referred to as insomnia. The sleeping disorders are classified into dyssomnias, parasomnias, circadian rhythm sleep disorders based on the time of occurrence.

Reports showed that about 10% to 30% of people suffer from insomnia and half of the people have insomnia in a year. And people above the age of 65 years are affected more when compared to the younger people. 6% of the people have insomnia and not because of any other disorder, and it lasts more than a month.

As per a new study, about 200 people who take prescribed medications were compared with 400 women who suffer from the sleeping disorder but do not take medications and found out that the sleeping medications do not work in the long term.

After one or two years, the medications do not work, and the women with sleeping meds do not sleep any better or longer than those who do not take medications.

Dr. Daniel Solomon, a rheumatologist, an epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s, mentioned in the recent news report that taking sleeping medications for chronic sleeping disorders will not have any benefits in the long run.

He also mentioned that he usually prescribes the medicine for one week, and his patients come back complaining and taking it for a long time use. Even though he did not focus on the sleep issues, he was surprised to see that the medications weren’t benefiting his patients.

As per the data collected from the U.S. National Institute of Health, thousands of women look at how middle-age and menopause affect their physical and mental health.

Menopause is nothing, but women stop producing certain hormones, which stop monthly periods; women can get sleeping disorders in this period. Sometimes these sleeping disorders can also lead to menopause and to menopause itself.

And the reports also mentioned that some of the women from the data set would wake up in the model of the night and have trouble falling asleep.

All the women in the study reported sleep disturbance, and some of them reported medications, and others did not.

The doctors and the scientists monitored these patients for one or two years, and the reports showed that these medications did not benefit in the long term, but it helped the women in the short term.

Some of the commonly prescribed drugs are benzodiazepines and Z drugs, also known as zolpidem and eszopiclone. Some of them promote sleepiness, and others calm the anxiety.

The sleep specialist and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s Board of Directors mentioned that these medications keep the person alter the entire day and relax or calms the person at night, which causes them to sleep.

Like every other medication, sleeping medications also come with risks. It can cause day sleepiness and imbalance when the person wakes up in the model of the night to go to the bathroom. A person can become dependent on sleeping pills as sleeping is a natural phenomenon. It also has a high chance that sleeping pills and memory loss are interconnected in the future.
