As per the studies, it is found out the cause for a virus to change to a new variant. When a virus is widely circulating and causing infections, the likelihood of the virus mutating increases. The more opportunity a virus has to spread, the more it replicates which has more opportunities that the virus can modify and change and can be more harmful.

This variant coronavirus is not only in India but has also traveled to other countries and one of the countries is the United Kingdom. The British health officials expressed their optimism on Sunday that they might list the restrictions in June as an official study found that Pfizer and AstraZeneca offer protection against the Indian variant coronavirus. Even though the mutant or the variant was originated in India, authorities in Britain have found that there more than 2,880 cases of Indian variant in England. The British authorities had a successful plan of re-opening its economy from June, but now since there are variants they do not want to jeopardize the successful plan.

The government also mentioned that the variant appears to be more transmissible, but there was still uncertainty on how concerning this was. The Chief Executive of the U.K. Health Security Agency also mentioned that the officials in England were to proceed with the final reopening of the country if the public is cautious and cooperative. She also mentioned that if the people continued to observe all the safety measures, then it will be good. But she also warned that the variant is dominating in some parts of the country such as Northwestern England, and people in the hotspot have to be vigilant.

The Health Secretary also mentioned that he was increasingly confident that the country could follow the unlocking plan. These were mentioned after the results of the study of Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccines can offer high levels of protection against symptomatic disease from the Indian mutant of coronavirus as well. The studies also showed that only after taking two doses of Pfizer’s vaccine, provided about 88% of protection against the virus and the mutant. That was compared with 93% effectiveness against the variant that was first found in Kent, England. This study took place between April 5 and May 16.

The AstraZeneca jab was 60% effective after taking both the doses of the vaccine for the Indian mutant when compared with 66% against the Kent variant. These vaccines were only 33% effective after taking both the doses against the Indian variant symptomatic disease after three weeks of the first dose. The main reason for effective control in the number of cases of the coronavirus was the tough lockdown and the vaccination rollout program. Socializing indoors in limited numbers is allowed again, along with the blanket ban on traveling abroad, restaurants, and pubs will be partially lifted.

Officials have also mentioned that they plan on reopening the nightclubs and allow large events like festivals from June 21 if the infection rates and the death rates stay low. It is also found that more than 37.7 million people or 72% of the population have already had the first dose of their vaccine and about 42% of the population have had their second dose of the vaccine.
